Nestled in the vibrant heart of Minneapolis, Sooki & Mimi offers a truly innovative dining experience that blends the bold flavors of Korean and Mexican cuisines into an extraordinary fusion. This restaurant is a sanctuary for adventurous food lovers eager to savor dishes that delight both the eye and the palate.
From the moment you step inside, you’re welcomed by a serene yet stylish ambiance that perfectly complements the creative culinary journey ahead. The decor is thoughtfully curated—inviting yet refined—setting the tone for a meal where every detail is intentional and every dish crafted with care.
The menu at Sooki & Mimi showcases an imaginative range of offerings that are as visually stunning as they are delicious. Starters like the huarache gravlax, featuring charred scallion cream cheese and everything bagel spice, create an unforgettable opening impression. The mushroom birria tacos, conjuring earthy confit maitake mushrooms married with silky queso chihuahua and shiitake crema, resonate with deep, umami richness that leaves you craving more. Not to be missed are the Korean pork tacos, a brilliantly balanced medley of gochujang heat, fermented black bean tang, and the sweet burst of pineapple, topped with fresh cilantro and creamy guacamole—a symphony of textures and vivid flavors.
Sooki & Mimi also excels in shareable dishes perfect for communal dining. The butcher’s cut offers a luxurious morita au poivre preparation accompanied by bleu cheese and pickled red onions, while the galbi jjim Korean braised beef with gosu kimchi and salsa roja adds a soulful depth that lingers long after the last bite.
Sweet endings are no less captivating here. The Japanese cheesecake with kabocha squash, meringue brûlée, and ginger caramel marries delicate sweetness with a hint of spice, while the sweet potato mochi donuts provide a playful, indulgent finale with layers of dulce de leche and chocolate mousse.
Guests consistently praise not only the innovative dishes but also the warm, attentive service that enhances the entire dining experience. From Jessica Knowles’ birthday celebration, noting the “calming ambiance” and “stunning” yet “absolutely delicious” food, to Sean Lawrence proclaiming it “probably the best meal I’ve eaten in MN,” it’s clear that every visit leaves a lasting impression.
Whether you’re seeking a memorable night out to savor inventive flavors or simply craving expertly crafted Korean-Mexican fusion, Sooki & Mimi promises an exceptional culinary adventure that captivates all your senses and encourages you to linger, taste, and discover. This is not a place to rush—but a destination to savor each bite, each moment, and each nuance of flavor.
Went in for my birthday dinner tonight and had Chelsee as our server, she was so kind and the rest of the staff was incredibly helpful - they worked as such a great team. Such calming ambiance from the moment we walking in, beautiful decor! The food was not only stunning to look at but absolutely delicious!! The mushroom tacos were phenomenal - mouth watering just thinking about them again as I write this review! I am already looking forward to returning!!
I absolutely loved this place! Not only is the atmosphere super adorable, but the service is great as well. There is a 21% surcharge for the servers because they don't allow tipping, but don't let that make you believe that you don't still get the best service ever. The pork tacos were fabulous, the walleye tacos were really great as well, and the broccolini side dish was incredible. I had one of their specialty drinks and loved how light and refreshing it was. Overall, it was a perfect evening. The bathrooms were pretty cool as well.
I am half Korean and love Korean cooking and have never had it mixed with Mexican. So much fun. This is not a restaurant to come and fill up quickly and leave. This is a restaurant to savor each bite and enjoy it all the combinations of flavors. My only suggestion is don’t drink too much because you won’t be able to figure out whether or not you have to push or pull on the bathroom door. Ha ha thank goodness I didn’t have a cocktail. You’ll see what I mean when you get there.
Amazing Mexican Korean fusion. I really like the decor and ambiance. I ordered the Korean chicken wing, shrimp, that cheese taco and a Japanese cake as dessert. The only thing I didn’t really like is the desert. Everything else is very flavorful and tasty. Especially the shrimp. It’s a full shrimp so it includes both head and tail. Extremely rich flavor, almost like how I would cook it at home. The Korean chicken wing is also very delicious. It has the right amount of spiciness to it. Overall very good experience and highly recommend.
I had such a great time here. This is probably the best meal I've eaten in MN. I came in with high expectations, and they were surpassed by this meal. Each dish was better than the last. The inventive fusion combos of flavors and textures really shines in this menu. I couldn't believe how wonderfully meaty the mushroom tacos tasted. I cannot wait to return again soon. Maybe best of all, they have actual options to accommodate vegetarian and alcohol-free patrons. While all the servers were fantastic, I only got the names of Chelsea and Sarah and they should be recognized for going above and beyond!
I have swung around to Pizzeria Lola several months ago, but we had to check out Sookie & Mimi after seeing the Chef’s Table special on Ann Kim! The staff of this restaurant was one of the best; everyone was enthusiastic, welcoming, and knowledgeable. The restaurant layout was gorgeous and had plenty of seating. We had reservations, but the place seemed big enough that we feel we may not have needed them for an early dinner. The food and drinks were pretty much what we expected; delicious and impeccable! The two out-of-this-world faves were the Korean wings and Korean pork tacos. The butcher’s cut was cooked perfectly, but be warned, it’s spicy! Everything was also decently priced. Now we just need to find time to try Young Joni!
Yesterday, my friends and I pretty much ended up trying the entire menu, and we have all concluded that this establishment had amazing food, especially the tacos, which we ended up ordering twice for each kind. Personally I have long known Sooki & Mimi as a restaurant that served a combination of Korean and Mexican fusion food, so I came in with lots of excitement. It was a lovely experience with amazing food, amazing service, and great atmosphere! Because we had 6 people, we ended up getting a stone table almost right next to the kitchen, and being able to watch the cooking process at times was joyful as well. Every taco was a hit, especially the mushroom birria tacos, the braised lamb tacos, and the baja fish tacos. Each type had a very unique flavor that had a great balance of sauce, protein, and toppings. Not one greatly dominated the other ones. For the dinomite dorados tacos, we had a brontosaurus holder and a tricerotops holder, and by that time I finally understood why the dish contained the name "dinomite" and that was really cute! Those chorizo tacos were excellent as well! Just comparatively, the other three really shined for me. I would also like to point out that not one type of tacos tasted like another type, which was amazing because that meant the tacos didn't just heavily rely on their respective sauces! The entrées were not as impressive as the tacos, but they were great as well! I thought the portions were a bit small for the prices, but the taste made it worth it, at least. The pork chop itself was cooked to medium to medium well, so some of that good raw meat taste was retained, and together with some pineapple pico and al pastor glaze, it was a great combination. The galbi jjim had some tender braised beef! Together with gochugaru crema, it allowed me to make some excellent tacos using their tortillas with sole beef, crema, and kimchi, a combination we never asked for but found out that we needed! The tamal was good as well, but the highlight to me was actually what was around the tamale because if you combine those ingredients with a bite of the tamale, it's a completely new flavor profile. Both desserts were excellent! The lemongrass panna cotta was unlike any panna cotta I had ever had. The flavor was unique in a way that I thoroughly enjoyed despite not familiar. The sweet potato mochi donuts worked very well with dulce de leche and chocolate mousse! Nothing else I can say about it! I would recommend both, and because they had such different kinds of flavors, I think it would really be up to personal preference. I am happy to have finally visited before they close and get reincarnated as a new entity, and I am grateful for such!
It was everything I expected: delicious and interesting food, great craft cocktails (many with ingredients I'd never heard of before), excellent service, and a fun and cool decor. Lots of great vegetarian options! And everything on the menu (except for the pork tacos) could be made gluten free. The mushroom tacos were absolutely delicious (and I don't usually like mushrooms)!
